2021 Annual Report

Dear Friends,

In 2021, our communities faced extraordinary challenges that have not let up in 2022. And while it can be exhausting to continue to push against the disturbing antidemocratic trends in our country, our grantees and partners helped us maintain our resolve and our dedication to do more in 2022 and beyond.

Despite all that is coming at us, it is important to look back and learn. To that end, we are pleased to share the Raikes Foundation’s 2021 Annual Report which outlines those lessons and provides a snapshot of our journey and the progress we’ve made in our work in funding and supporting our grantees.

Here is a quick snapshot of what we were able to accomplish: Through our education portfolio, we directed more than $15 million in partner funding to support local, state, and national advocacy campaigns to defend learning experiences that represent, reflect, and respond to the realities of all students. Our youth and young adult homelessness team funded a pilot program from our partners at A Way Home Washington that led to a 20% reduction in youth homelessness in Walla Walla, WA. And in our impact driven philanthropy initiative, 95% of our 2021 grant dollars supported work that is explicitly focused on advancing equity.

We are inspired by and grateful to all our partners, many of whom are doing their work under threat, who teach us every day what it means to be resilient and dedicated. We owe it to them, and all of us, to remain firmly committed to the work of creating a just and inclusive society.
